March 14, 2020 – The Illinois Department of Public Health says two people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sangamon County. A 71-year-old female patient presented to the ER at Memorial Medical Center on March 12th with symptoms. The woman’s son, who is a resident of Florida, had recently traveled to Switzerland and then to Springfield to visit and was not showing any symptoms upon his return. According to officials with Memorial Medical, the woman deteriorated quickly and was placed in intensive care and isolation and confirmed with COVID-19. The son, who has now returned to Florida has also tested positive. A second patient was also identified that was tested at an outpatient facility and is currently self quarantined.
