September 8, 2020 – The Decatur Area Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced the launch of a new interactive visitor guide. The guide is designed to attract visitors to the Decatur and Forsyth area for overnight stays at hotels. The Freestyle Touring Initiative gives visitors a way to easily scan, connect and explore Decatur area attractions from their mobile devices.
“Regional tourism is an important economic stimulus for the Decatur/Forsyth area,” said Teri Hammel, Executive Director of the DACVB. “Freestyle Touring is an interactive way for us to promote local attractions to visitors who want to explore on their own closer to home, which is the current trend in domestic travel.”
Freestyle Touring is self-guided walking and driving tours that use brochures, audio CDs and digital mapping from a vehicle or mobile device. Currently, there are three 2-day itineraries for the Decatur area. More itineraries will be released in the future. The current itineraries are Looking for Lincoln, Public Art Trail and Historic Places. Looking for Lincoln is a walking and driving tour of 15 exhibits that document significant sites concerning Abraham Lincoln in Macon County. Public Art Trail is a walking tour of Scovill Sculpture Park with a driving tour of the painted wall art from the Mural Project. Historic Places is a walking tour of historic neighborhoods and a driving tour of eight locations in Decatur on the National Registry of Historic Places.
