October 5, 2020 – A drive-thru flu shot clinic for patients will be held by DMH Medical Group on October 17th. Flu shots will be administered to pediatric and adult patients from 8 am to noon at DMH 304 West Hay Medical Center. “This year more than ever, we should all be aware of what we can do to prevent the spread of infectious diseases like influenza and COVID-19,” said Dr. Raj Govindaiah, senior vice president and chief medical officer of Memorial Health System. “This year everyone should get a flu shot, continue to wear a mask, wash your hands, socially distance and stay home if you are sick.”
Influenza is active year-round, but infections increase in fall and winter with the most active months being between October and May.
“Vaccines for COVID-19 are still under development, but you can get a flu vaccine right now,” Govindaiah said. “The simplest way to prevent the spread of influenza is to never get it in the first place, which is why I encourage everyone to get the flu vaccination now, and to continue to take steps to prevent the spread of illness.”
