October 20, 2020 – The City of Decatur Mayor and City Council have approved a new electric supply agreement with Homefield Energy for all residential and small commercial electric accounts within the city of Decatur.  The new supply agreement was approved at the last City Council meeting.

Decatur secured a rate of 4.525 cents/Kwh versus the current Ameren rate of 5.34 cents/Kwh  The new agreement represents nearly a 20% savings for residents and small businesses.  In the coming weeks, Ameren customers in Decatur will receive a letter from Homefield that indicates the new contract pricing and give customers the option to opt out.  Some residents may have already received the letter.  It is recommended that residents and small businesses do not opt out, so they may take advantage of the $161 of savings on their power bills over the next year.

The process of opting out is established by State statute and residents that choose to do so may enclose their postcard in an envelope to protect any personal information.  For residents and businesses that choose to not opt out, the supply price will be in effect for one year beginning in December 2020.  The no-cost program, run by the City of Decatur, will save Decatur utility customers over $5 million in electric bills in the next year.  Residents can opt out at any time at no cost.  Residents may also relocate throughout Decatur and realize the same savings.
