October 30, 2020 – Today, a gift of $4,000 in honor of Vinnie and Debra Barbee and the work they do was made to the Water Street Mission to help assist with feeding the homeless.  An additional gift of $6,000 is being made to the Church of the Living God PGT Temple 1, who under the leadership of Reverend Tyrone Cooper, has offered to coordinate the annual Christmas toy drive to help families that are in need.  Doug and Peg Schmalz are the donors who recommended the gifts after seeing the stories in the paper.  Doug and Peg have worked with the Community Foundation of Macon County since its inception and Doug is also a past board member.

The Community Foundation of Macon County was the conduit between the donors and the community.  MIssy Batman, Vice President of the Community Foundation of Macon County, said, “We are so grateful for the privilege of working with generous donors like Doug and Peg Schmalz, and are thrilled to make our first grants from the Racial Equity Fund honoring Vinnie’s and Debra’s wonderful work.”
