November 18, 2020 – High School Winter sports are on hold after Governor JB Pritzker announced Tier 3 mitigation efforts to combat COVID-19 surges in the state.
The IHSA says they remain optimistic that sports could resume in 2021. Winter sports include boys’ and girls’ basketball.
The IHSA Board of Directors will meet as scheduled Thursday, “to continue plotting out potential paths for IHSA sport and activity participation through the remainder of the school year”.
The IHSA said they are asking the State Medical Director and Deputy Governor to “engage with the IHSA in the near future to collaborate on developing a plan to safely conduct IHSA sports and activities as soon as possible.” Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health declining an invitation to attend the IHSA’s board meeting tomorrow.
