Executive Director Angel Lawrence stated in a press released that the organization recently discovered that Northeast was a victim of fraud with regards to a checking account at First Mid Bank and Trust.
The release stated Decatur Police Department has been in constant communication with Northeast regarding persons of interest outside the organization and the nonprofit organization has taken appropriate action to close the compromised account and recover funds.
Lawrence said the organization wants to reassure the community at large that their donations are secure and being used to support clients and programs.
