“Oh Sherrie” was Journey frontman Steve Perry's first single as a solo artist.

The song was inspired by and dedicated to Perry's wife, celebrating the strength of their marriage despite his rock-and-roll lifestyle.

Perry's Street Talk album was recorded while Journey was quiet — the group members weren't getting along, and they decided to take a break after 1983's Frontiers album. They didn't record again until 1986's Raised On Radio.

For Street Talk, Perry enlisted friends Bill Cuomo, Craig Krampf, and Randy Goodrum — who co-wrote “Oh Sherrie” and other songs on the album — as well as ace session players such asWaddy Wachtel, Mike Landau, Bob Glaub, producer David Foster, and future Journey bassist and American Idol judge Randy Jackson.

Street Talk reached Number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold more than two million copies.
