December 11, 2020 – The President of Richland Community College has been honored with the 2020 “Do Something Great Award for Excellence in Inclusion”.

Cristobal Valdez, Ed.D. was honored by the Community Foundation of Macon County as an exemplary individual who is working collaboratively to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable climate in Macon County.

Nominated by Dr. Juanita Morris, educational consultant, President Valdez is being recognized for advancing diversity awareness, promoting institutional policies and practices that invite and reinforce inclusiveness, and advocating for the interests of underrepresented populations.

“Dr. Valdez has shifted the narrative and the work of the community college landscape locally, regionally and nationally,” said Dr. Morris. “He has created a leadership team that is diverse in thought, perspective and experiences. It takes a special kind of leader, one who not only allows but also creates space for inclusivity, to allow for work that is not the ‘traditional’ college programming to be created and implemented.”

In its 16th year, the Macon County Do Something Great award program honors leaders and organizations for outstanding contributions to the betterment of Macon County
