Write In Candidate Triggers Primary for Decatur City Council Election

December 20, 2020 – A candidate who filed intentions to run as a write-in for Decatur City Council has triggered a primary election.

Eric Summerlott filed a Declaration of Intent to be a Write-In Candidate, making him the 13th candidate in the race. With his filing, a Consolidated Primary Election will now be held on Tuesday, February 23rd to reduce the number of candidates to 6.

Twelve candidates previously filed their nominating petitions during the filing period in November 2020: David Horn and Chuck Kuhle, as well as challengers Ed Culp, Anthony S. Chapple, Aldophis Cooper, Marc Girdler, Jacob Jenkins, Elijah England, John Phillips, Hardik Shah, Marty Watkins, and William Wetzel.

The Consolidated General Election will take place on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 for three available seats on the Decatur City Council.
