December 21, 2020 – Today, the Boys and girls Club of Decatur gave away more than 100 toys to kids in their program. The BGCD serves kids between the ages of 7 to 18. For the teenagers, they gave away BlueTooth speakers, gift cards, and T-Shirts. For the younger kids, there were dolls and action figures, treats, and gift cards to McDonald’s.
This was the first year that BGCD held the event, and it was held specifically due to the pandemic said Shamika Madison, Executive Director for the Boys and Girls Club of Decatur.
“We wanted to do something special for the kids. We wanted to give back to them. They went through so much with the pandemic and with school being out, so this is our way of giving back,” said Madison.
Santa was on-hand to take pictures with the kids, and families were served cookies and hot chocolate after pictures with Santa. The event was held through 4 pm today. There was a waiting list outside with one family inside at a time. Social distancing and masks were also required.
