December 28, 2020 – The Black Chamber of Commerce of Illinois and the INC. Spot came together for Operation: Save Christmas. The group held a wrapping party for gifts for children and the festivities on December 22 and held a Christmas caravan to distribute the gifts the next day.
The group went to Wabash Crossing and Greenwood Manor to hand out gifts with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The group was able to provide toys to over 150 children and provided Christmas gifts for 35 families.
Crystal Cleere, a volunteer, spoke about what helped make the event come together. “A group effort. A lot of the people you’ll see any other week or month here in the community helping out, it’s kind of the same core group of people…and when we’re called, we come.”
An upstairs room inside of the INC. Spot was transformed into Santa’s Workshop for kids to come in and see what Santa’s workplace is like during the Christmas season.
