January 6, 2021 – Families in Decatur now have free access to Miss Humblebee’s Academy. Miss Humblebee’s Academy is an award-winning online, educational program. Miss Humblebee’s Academy assists the library’s youngest learners in building foundational literacy skills and preparing for kindergarten. Parents and children can access the fun and interactive learning program through the Decatur Public Library’s website.

Miss Humblebee’s Academy is designed for children ages 3 to 6 and uses friendly cartoon characters to guide learning activities. It’s easy to use and offers hundreds of lessons spanning all major academic subjects. Parents will appreciate weekly progress reports that measure their child’s proficiency and learning outcomes.

“Public libraries do a lot to support the life-long learning needs of the community, and offering Miss Humblebee’s Academy ensures we’re helping our youngest patrons prepare for kindergarten and beyond,” said Rick Meyer, City Librarian.

With Miss Humblebee’s Academy, children get the opportunity to learn while having fun in a safe online classroom environment. There are no pop-ups, ads, or links to other websites. Parents receive tools to track their child’s readiness for kindergarten. The program assesses cognitive skills at regular intervals for measurable improvement toward kindergarten-readiness and even includes a checklist to help parents evaluate their child’s development. Parents can also review social and emotional growth as an additional condition of school preparedness.

Families can access Miss Humblebee’s Academy at the library, from home, or on-the-go via a mobile device. A portion of the curriculum is also available offline in the form of printouts and practice worksheets. Decatur residents can access Miss Humblebee’s Academy at any time, on any device by visiting the library’s website.
