January 7, 2021 – Attorney General Kwame Raoul issued a warning to the public about COVID-19 vaccine scams. The approval of the vaccine has allowed con artists more chances to trick consumers.

He warned consumers to ignore emails, texts, and calls that offer to put them on a list to get the vaccine, or if they ask for any personal information in order to sign up for a shot. “Unless you’re hearing from your physician, your medical provider, or public health department, you should definitely disregard the call. Don’t click on anything whether it’s through a text or email link that suggests that it’s going to lead you to somewhere you can get a vaccine or a treatment quicker or easier,” Raoul said.

He also warned that Medicaid and Medicare will not call people to offer the vaccine and that no legitimate worker will ask for your social security information or bank account.
