February 3, 2021 – The Illinois Department of Public Health is issuing a reminder to those who are going through the process of vaccination or are about to. Maximum protection from the virus does not occur until 10-14 days after the second dose said Dr. Ngozi Ezike. She says that means you still need to be careful.

“We know that even after that point there’s a very small percentage of people that won’t be completely protected and there is still a bigger possibility that you can still contract the virus which means you could then pass the virus on to others around you,” said Ezike.

She said that the good news is that the vaccine has been around 95% effective, which is a far greater percentage than the annual flu shot, which is around 40-50% effective.
