Canadian Hockey Team to Live in Arena for Season

By Wes Styles Feb 12, 2021 | 6:33 AM

The Western Hockey League (WHL) has some challenges for the up coming season thanks to the pandemic. One team, the Red Deer Rebels, are taking a creative approach.

The season starts on February 26 with games only running on weekends between five Alberta area teams. Players needed to self-quarantine prior to arriving to their perspective teams on February 6.

Instead of staying at local hotels and possibly mixing with the public, the Rebels took up residence at their own arena. The team converted suites into ‘rooms’ for the team members.

Players will live at the arena for the season since fans won’t attend games. Basketball nets, ping pong tables have been set up to keep the players entertained. Thankfully wifi has also been added to the suites.
