February 15, 2021 – Governor Pritzker is set to deliver his annual budget address on Wednesday and Illinois House Republicans are saying that it is more important than ever to make sure the proposal is balanced. The Illinois Constitution requires the state budget to be balanced yearly, with spending matching revenues. However, sometimes expected revenues do not meet expectations. House GOP Leader Jim Durkin says that can’t happen this year.

“There are no bogeys when it comes to a state budget. The House Republican caucus will continue to fight for taxpayers, demand a balanced budget, and hold the Democrat majority and Governor Pritzker accountable with the taxpayer money of Illinois.” said Durkin.

Illinois is currently facing a three billion dollar budget deficit. Governor Pritzker has said that his proposal will keep spending at the same levels as last year and will not include a tax increase. He says that Republicans should offer suggestions about where cuts can be made in order to keep costs down.
