February 19, 2021 – Macon County Conservation District is hosting a program for a history of Decatur’s First Photographers, hosted by Historic Sites Manager Brent Wielt.
Since the invention of photography before the U.S. Civil War, several professional photographers have called Decatur home. Look for evidence of our city’s first photographers, their time in Decatur, and any surviving works. Attend in person at Rock Springs Nature Center on Sunday, February 21 at 2 pm, or attend virtually via Zoom on Thursday, February 25 at 6:30 pm. The program is free and registration is available on Macon County Conservation District’s website.
Rock Springs Conservation Area is located on the southwestern edge of Decatur. To get to Rock Springs from Decatur, go south on Route 48 and turn west onto Rock Springs Road, or go south on Wyckles Road and turn east onto Rock Springs Road. Watch for signs. Plenty of parking is available.
