April 6, 2021 – Today the wreath above the Macon County Courthouse was lit in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
There have also been a total of 630 pinwheels planted on the lawn of the courthouse, which stand for the number of children currently in Macon County’s foster care system. Speakers at the event included Sheriff Tony Brown, Pastor Matt Samuels of GT Church, Julia Livingston of Macon County CASA, Jean Moore of Child 1st Center, and Valerie Bush of DPS Health Services.
The speakers’ focuses were on the children and while there are 630 kids currently in the foster care system, there are many more that have not gotten the help they need.
Pastor Matt Samuels noted that too often people say, “Someone should do something,” and challenged those in the crowd to be a person who steps up and makes a difference in a child’s life. He noted that people should be saying, “I’m going to do something.” and reflected on what it takes to be able to reach out and give others the help they need and deserve.
If you’re looking to step up and make a positive impact on a child’s life, contact CASA here.
