April 8, 2021 – Amur Honeysuckle is an invasive plant that is threatening Fairview Park’s biodiversity. This bushy shrub quickly overtakes an area, shading native plants, stunting their growth, and affecting the wildlife.

Join Macon County Master Gardeners from 9 to 11 am on Saturday, April 10, for the annual Honeysuckle Sweep. Volunteers will meet at the Fairview Park pool parking lot at 9 am and work in teams with certified herbicide applicators to rid the park of this invasive plant.

Volunteers should dress accordingly and bring gloves, pruners, and loppers, if available. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, pre-registration is required, and volunteers will need to wear facial coverings and socially distance during the event.

Register at go.illinois.edu/Honeysuckle. For more information, please contact Julia at julia8@illinois.edu or (217) 877-6042. This event is possible through a partnership between University of Illinois Extension in Macon County and the Decatur Park District.

Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please call (217) 877-6042. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting access need.
