April 9, 2021 – New daily COVID-19 cases rose above 4,000 today for the first time since the end of January. There were a total of 4,004 new and probable cases of infection reported along with 21 additional deaths. The number of COVID patients in the hospital is also increasing, with about 1,800 currently admitted.

The good news is that it was another record day for vaccinations, with more than 164,000 doses administered Thursday, according to Governor J.B. Pritzker.

“That’s a great direction, that is definitely positive news. We just need to make sure that everybody is following mitigations that exist today, wearing their masks, doing the right thing, so we can bring those hospitalizations and those ICU beds down.” said Pritzker.

The governor says those that are ending up in the hospital are typically those that have not been vaccinated. You can find a vaccination site near you at the state’s website.
