April 15, 2021 – Today the Community Foundation of Macon County and the Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly announced a new $10,000 Michael T. Carrigan Solidarity Scholarship to benefit Macon County union workers.

The event was held at the IBEW Local 146, IBEW Hall, 3390 North Woodford Street in Decatur.

Michael T. Carrigan was appointed to the Illinois Commerce Commission by Governor J.B. Pritzker on January 31, 2020, to a five-year term. Mr. Carrigan began his career in 1978 as an apprentice electrician at the Decatur-based IBEW Local 146.

“We are thrilled to be naming this scholarship in honor of Michael T. Carrigan,” said Amy Reuff, Decatur Trades and Labor Assembly treasurer. “Michael’s strong commitment to labor and community, combined with mentorship and training, specifically within the skilled trades, is why this scholarship bears his name. This is just one more step toward helping workers learn more, do more, and become more. ”

The $10,000 worth of scholarship funds will be used mostly by first-year workers who need money in order to purchase schooling, tools, boots, and other job-related equipment.
