Illinois State Board pushing for return to in-person classrooms this fall

May 20, 2021 – The Illinois State Board is voting to require most kids to return to the classroom in the fall. Yesterday, the board approved a resolution signifying that it is time to get back to school.

“Although online classes are a far better option than no classes at all, multiple studies show that students learn best when present, in person, alongside their teachers, peers, and support network. That’s especially true for children who struggle academically or who struggle with mental health,” said state superintendent Carmen Ayala.

The only exception will be students who are unable to receive the vaccine and are also under public health quarantine orders. The resolution does not include a vaccine mandate.
