June 16, 2021 – The Kiwanis Clubs of Decatur are arranging a service project event to support the individuals that are helped by The Salvation Army. The Noon Club, President Keith Backes, came up with the idea and reached out to include the other clubs.
This started out as a possible Garage Sale idea and has since taken shape to be a specific directed collection event to possibly help individuals who are moving or have recently moved into their own homes after being supported by the Men’s Shelter or Pathway of Hope programs at The Salvation Army. One of the goals for both programs is to help people and families to self-sufficiency. It is a major life accomplishment when they move into their own place but when they do they typically do not have many of the household things they need.
Donations of household and hygiene items will be collected on June 22 at the Noon Kiwanis Club Lunch Meeting in the parking lot at the Decatur Club. The Salvation Army box truck will be there for the donations. Members can donate things that would directly benefit clients moving into their own homes for their first time: beds, fans, dishes, cooking & eating utensils. In addition to these household items, members can donate hygiene items like paper towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, etc.
