July 7, 2021 – This weekend, the Decatur Park District will host the  2nd Annual Midstate Soccer Goalkeeper WarsGoalkeeper Wars is a tournament that focuses on the Goalkeepers’ ability to serve the ball in various ways and make saves. In this tournament, it is keeper vs keeper in 3-minute rounds. Each keeper will take shots on the other keeper in order to score a point. They can take regular shots, throw it with their hands, and even punt the ball to score. At the end of 3 minutes, the keeper with the most points wins. The first match will take place at 8:30 am at the Midstate Soccer Complex and will feature players ranging from 6 to adult. Similar tournaments have been hosted in St. Louis and Chicago, and because this is the only central tournament, the park district expects more than 60 players from around the state.

Tyler Benton of Mid-State Soccer joined Byers & Co to talk about their upcoming Goalkeeper Wars event. Listen to the podcast now.
