July 16, 2021 – Today City Councilman Rodney Walker announced his resignation. Below is a direct statement from his Facebook page.

I want to begin by saying THANK YOU!  Thank you Decatur for your support and for choosing me to represent you on City Council. It’s been a huge honor and I’ve learned so much about our City in such a short time. Throughout the ups and downs I can truly say that the good has outweighed the bad. I felt very fortunate to be surrounded by a good team of individuals whom all are passionate about the City of Decatur.  Having a diversified mindset is what makes the world go around.  Many of you may know that I wear several hats in our community: Coach, Business owner, Pharma distributor, Councilman and more.  I’ve always strived and persuaded others towards having a diversified portfolio that consisted of multiple streams of investments.  This type of lifestyle has worked out for my family and I since day one.  Unfortunately my position as an elected official has hindered me in several opportunities due to being a conflict of interest.  Language and laws were put into place many moons before my existence.  I would never expect any special treatment or think of having my team adjust laws for my well being. Laws are laws and I’m not above them. In order for me to continue my existence in the City of Decatur I must free my hands and be able to continue to invest in our community when opportunities arise.  I admit if I were aware of the limitations from the beginning then I would have never ran for City Council.  That’s my fault and I can live with that.  The same way I can live with every decision I voted on as your Councilman.  My main purpose was to bridge the communication gap between the people and the City while staying authentic and transparent.  Pushing to simplify matters where all walks of life could understand and feel comfortable discussing issues.  At the end of the day I made sure that I could sleep at night because I knew one day that I would not always be behind the podium. That day has come.  As of today , I Councilman Walker will be resigning as your City Councilman.  To the four thousand plus citizens that voted for me, THANK YOU! Thank you for support and for believing in me. I wouldn’t trade the last three years for nothing.   Blessings to you all and lets continue to make Decatur a better place. “ WE ARE DECATUR “ 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾”
