July 22, 2021 – The American CueSports (ACS) Illinois State Tournament is going on now through July 25th at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel. There are 112 pool tables set up for the tournament and over 3,000 entries between more than 1,000 players in 22 different events. The events range from Junior state championships to the Super Seniors division.
“Anybody can play this sport. Pool right now has around 39 and a half million players worldwide,” said Cecil Messer, event coordinator. “We have a division for everybody from the novice to the masters. You don’t have to be competitive to enjoy this game. The best part about this sport is the level playing field. That playing field does not favor any gender. It doesn’t favor females, it doesn’t favor males. It’s just two people out there competing and that’s what the beauty of the game is.”
One of the featured athletes is Earl “The Pearl” Strickland, a five-time US Open Nine Ball Championship winner. Earl will be putting on a show that will be free to the public at 7:30 pm this evening.
After Decatur, the ACS will be hitting the road to go to Las Vegas for the U.S. Open Junior Championships.
