July 26, 2021 – Starting on January 1, 2022, the State of Illinois will be expanding its animal cruelty laws to ensure the safety of pets and animals.

After the new year, courts will have the ability to ban you or someone in the same home from having control of animals if convicted of two or more of the following offenses:

  1. Violation of aggravated cruelty
  2. Violation of animals for entertainment
  3. A violation of dogfighting

If you do adopt a pet that has been abused, it may have to have special care and special attention.
