
August 18, 2021 – Meet hummingbirds up close at the Macon County Conservation District’s annual Hummingbird Festival on Thursday, August 26 from 4-7 pm at Rock Springs Conservation Area. Join host Vernon Kleen to learn about hummingbird species, what attracts these birds, and watch as wild hummingbirds are caught, banded, and released.
Come for part of the evening or stay the whole time. Bring your lawn chair to the west lawn of Rock Springs Nature Center. You’re welcome to bring your own snacks or a picnic dinner. Festival attendance is free. Must pre-register online by noon on August 25 at MaconCountyConservation.org. Space is limited. This event is proudly co-sponsored by the Decatur Audubon Society.
Rock Springs Conservation Area is located on the southwestern edge of Decatur, at 3939 Nearing Lane. To get to Rock Springs from Decatur, go south on Route 48 and turn west onto Rock Springs Road or go south on Wyckles Road and turn east onto Rock Springs Road. Watch for signs. Plenty of parking is available.
