September 15, 2021 – Today at the Salvation Army, around 40 people from different areas in our community participated in an Introduction to Restorative Practices training. In addition to educators, they had participants from the Salvation Army, Teen Justice, St. Mary’s, Macon County Emergency Management, RCC, Millikin, Child 1st, Set Free Movement, Northeast Community Fund, Macon County HEALS, and S.I.M.P., Inc.

Restorative practices are a formal way of recognizing relationships and understanding how important relationships are. It also recognizes when harm is done in a relationship and how to repair and strengthen those relationships and the human connection.

The group of attendees participated in a free expression circle which was headed by Kevin Jones, a lecturer for the International Institute for Restorative Practices, as well as learned about how they can integrate restorative practices into not only their work but their daily lives as well.

There will be two more sessions, which are still available to be registered for here, or you can contact Jill Reedy at 217-872-3725.

Below is an interview with Jill Reedy, Assistant Regional Superintendent for Macon-Pyatt Regional Offices of Education.
