
September 16, 2021 – Dan Martini, Decatur businessman and volunteer, will be honored as the Boy Scouts 2021 Distinguished Citizen Award recipient at the Annual Banquet Tuesday October 19, 2021.
The Distinguished Citizen Award honors a person who represents the spirit and the values of Scouting throughout the community. The Banquet is also a major fundraiser for the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Martini was born in 1970. He graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington/Normal in 1992. Dan joined the team at JL Hubbard in 1992 as an Account Executive and was promoted to Vice President in 2001 and served in that role for 17 years. In 2018, Dan became President of now First Mid Insurance Group.
Dan is and has been involved with numerous groups throughout the Decatur community including Children’s Museum of Illinois, Legion Baseball, Decatur Area Arts Council, Mt. Zion Police Pension Fund, and the St. Teresa Foundation board where he serves as President. Dan served as the board president for the local Boy Scout Council and helped facilitate the successful merger with the now Greater St. Louis Area Council.
Dan and his wife, Susan, have two children; Joe, 22, is getting his master’s in accounting from Loyola University in Chicago. Michael, 18, is a freshman at U of I in Champaign.
Past recipients of the Decatur Distinguished Citizen Award are Richie Barnett, James Livasy, and Robert Smith. This year’s event is presented by First Mid Bank & Trust / Insurance Group.
