
September 22, 2021 – Cody Moore announced his candidacy for the office of Macon County Sheriff in the 2022 election. Cody is running as a Republican.
Cody retired in 2016 from the Decatur Police Department as a Deputy Chief and has 31 years of law enforcement experience. Since his retirement from the Decatur Police Department, he has worked as an expert law enforcement consultant and has remained a sworn police officer. He had part-time status in Moweaqua and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office and remains a part-time deputy in the Christian County Sheriff’s office.
“As a longtime resident of Macon County and as someone with over 30 years’ experience working in law enforcement, I am honored to seek this opportunity to serve my community again by running for Sheriff of Macon County,” said Moore. “Macon County faces many economic and social challenges that affect public safety. With my leadership in the Sheriff’s office, I know we can come together to build a stronger, safer community.”
Cody’s priorities as Sheriff include:
- Increase inter-agency training and cooperation
- Improve upon and increase positive interactions between MCSO deputies and young people in our community
- Fully staff the Corrections Division
- Manage the Sheriff’s office with transparency
- Bring a management style to MCSO that builds trust with both the public and the department
Cody was born in Decatur, graduated from Moweaqua High School and attended Millikin University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and a teaching certificate.
After Millikin, Cody graduated from the Lincoln Land Police Training Center and began his career in the Patrol Division at the Decatur Police Department. Cody held numerous supervisory and instructor roles throughout his career at DPD before retiring as the Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigations. He is a 2014 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Cody’s law enforcement management experience includes budgeting, budget management, administration of the state and federal drug seizure funds, grant writing, equipment management, and deployment and supporting Emergency Response team operations. Cody is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, and the National Rifle Association.
