September 26, 2021- Sunday kicked off the first annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Fairview Park Pavilion #1.
The Celebration was hosted by a group of community leaders who represent the Hispanic community in Decatur.
The Event brought out close to a hundred Decatur civilians. People from all different backgrounds came together to celebrate Hispanic culture. Food trucks and vendors (Smack n’ Tacos, La Calentana Food Trucks, Kona Ice) lined the sidewalk and main entrance. There was also plenty of entertainment for those participating, to enjoy. A mariachi band, Mexican folk dancers, a caricature artist, and a presentation on the history of Hispanic culture.
Dr. Isaac Zuniga, Vice President of Student Success at Richland Community College, was pleased with the turnout, but is hopeful that as the event continues on, it will draw a larger crowd.
“We want to fill this pavilion up. This pavilion can hold over five hundred people and so hopefully with community members, non profits, the community can come out, expand this and grow this together. Together, we are better. In Spanish, “juntos somos mejores”
