The third single from the Against The Wind album, “You'll Accomp'ny Me” reached Number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 during the summer of 1980.

Bob Seger says the song was born during a loose writing and jam session between him and two members of his Silver Bullet Band, bassist Chris Campbell and drummer David Teegarden. The rest of the musicians were added to the song later.

The track features contributions by two members of Little Feat, keyboardist Bill Payne and percussionist Sam Clayton. Payne has been part of Seger's last two tours, and Seger has occasionally played the Little Feat favorite “Fat Man In The Bathtub” during his shows.

Though Seger was in the midst of a long-term relationship at the time, he said the song's lyrics — a message from a man to a “wild and free” woman about the inevitability of their being together — was drawn from one of the darker periods of that romance.

Paced by other acoustic-oriented hits such as “Fire Lake” and the title track, Against The Wind was Number One for six weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.

The album has sold more than four million copies.
