Rick Derringer's first band was with his siblings in the Zehringer Brothers, Zehringer being the family name. They later became the McCoys and recorded the hit “Hang On Sloopy.”
Rumor has it that Derringer was the inspiration for Duane Allman to pick up slide guitar after, seeing the young Rick Zehringer play.
Derringer went on to strike up a long-lasting relationship with Edgar and Johnny Winter, co-producing Johnny's Johnny Winter And album and touring with Edgar's White Trash and the Edgar Winter Group.
An early version of “Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo” was sung by Johnny Winter on the 1972 White Trash live album Roadwork.
Derringer's version of “Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo” was the first single from his first solo album. It peaked at Number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The All American Boy album was his top seller, peaking at Number 25 on the Billboard 200.
