October 15, 2021 – Millikin University and community organization Not Forgotten, Inc., have partnered to host an event on the challenges associated with autism spectrum disorder on Thursday, Oct. 21. The event, titled “My Experience(s) As a Spectrum Person,” will feature guest speaker Maire Foxx, an adjunct faculty member in history, organizational leadership and sociology at Millikin.
The event will be held from 7 – 8 p.m. on Oct. 21 in Shilling Hall, Room 315, on Millikin’s campus. The event is free and open to the public; masks are required to be worn.
As part of her speaking engagement, Maire Foxx will speak on her experience as an individual living with autism. Foxx has over 10 years of higher education teaching experience. Majoring in history with an emphasis in gender studies, she received a bachelor of arts from Missouri Southern State University and a master of arts from Pittsburg State University.
Foxx has taught at Missouri Southern State University, Pittsburg State University as well as Oklahoma State University, University of Illinois Springfield and Richland Community College, and traveled the world via research trips as an appointed research scholar.
An organization started in 2015 by Millikin graduate Rebekah Harrelson, Class of 2010, and Millikin School of Education faculty member Dr. Denice Love, associate professor of education, Not Forgotten’s main purpose is to develop awareness, resources and partnerships throughout the central Illinois community for children and adults with special needs, their families and their educators.
In response to parents and educators in the community who have requested to learn more about topics such as emotion regulation, managing behavior at home and in public, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and more, Not Forgotten has hosted several events over the last few years featuring experts who offer insight into these topics and providing needed information to the community.
