Though he's been releasing solo albums since the mid-'70s, Nils Lofgren's greatest fame has come as a band player. He led the group Grin in the late '60s and early '70s before hooking up withNeil Young's Crazy Horse. He joined Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band in 1984 and was part of Ringo Starr's first two All-Starr Band tours.
Springsteen broke up the E Street Band in 1989, but he and Lofgren remained close and he was more than happy to help the guitarist out on his Silver Lining album by singing a duet on “Valentine.”
Silver Lining peaked at Number 153 on the Billboard 200.
In addition to Springsteen, Silver Lining's guests included Starr, E Street bandmate Clarence Clemons, Billy Preston, and the Band's Levon Helm — all of whom were also part of the All-Starr Band projects.
