November 30, 2021 – The Transfer House has been renovated and transformed into Santa’s Workshop in preparation for the holidays. The project has been in the works for 18 months, with renovations beginning back in November of 2020.
According to Teri Hammel, Executive Director at Decatur Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, everything in the interior was renovated, “Everything from floors, electrical, ceiling, bathroom, walls. The only thing we did not have to change was the outside. It was gutted and completely renovated.” said Hammel.
When asked the importance of keeping the Transfer House as part of Decatur, Hammel said, “The Transfer House is the ICON of Decatur. So many businesses have some symbol or something so similar included in their brand or logo. It is truly a part of Decatur’s history.”
Santa has now moved into the Transfer House and will be there every Saturday from 11 to 5 pm.
