December 2, 2021 – Six Central Illinois airports were announced to be set to receive capital funding yesterday. Decatur is set to receive over 1.3 million dollars in state funding for reconstruction projects.

“The Park District is grateful for this grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation that will allow us to make much-needed improvements to the roadway around the terminal building and hangers at the airport.  Opportunities like this continue to ensure that we are able to provide a quality experience for our pilots and commuters traveling through the Decatur Airport.” said Clay Gerhard, Executive Director of the Decatur Park District.

Specifically, the airport will use the money to reconstruct select portions of the airport terminal entrance road and the North aircraft T-hangar access pavements.

“We’re excited about the airport capital program the governor announced yesterday. These two projects do not qualify under the FAA grants, that’s something that they do not fund is t-hangers and terminal entrances. It’s great news that we are benefitting locally from the Airport Capital Improvement Program.” said Tim Wright, Director of the Decatur Airport.
