December 8, 2021 – Today Millikin hosted its 88th annual Cookie Party for members of the University Community on the third floor of the University Commons. The tradition is held at the end of the first semester to help students gear up for finals, thank those on campus, and also to help to get the community in the Christmas Spirit.

The event had over 500 dozen cookies of all flavors and was inclusive to all cookie connoisseurs, featuring cookies that were nut-free, gluten-free, and vegan as well as classics like chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. Most of the cookies came from faculty and staff that volunteered their time or donated money to be able to buy cookies.

“We wanted to show all of our support. We love our students and we’ve been doing this for 88 years now and it’s important for our students to know that we love, care, and support them. Just by simply sharing a cookie and coming together as a campus is very important,” said Paul Lidy, Dean of Campus Life.

The event first took place in 1934 and was then referred to as the Christmas Tea. It was held in the browsing room of Gorin Library. The event was hosted by the Millikin Dames, an organization for women on Millikin‘s staff and wives of faculty members and trustees.
