December 21, 2021 – This year, First Responders from the Decatur Ambulance, County & City Fire Departments, Decatur Police Department, & Macon County Sheriff Department once again came out to ring bells for the Salvation Army on Dec 10 & 11.
The community gave generously on Dec. 9 at their Annual Gala, on Dec 10 & 11 in front of both Walmart Stores and Sam’s Club, and online in Virtual Kettles as the First Responders this year collectively rang for 73 one-hour shifts and raised $13,028.50 which was then matched dollar for dollar.
Gurneys, Guns, & Hoses has a little bit of competition involved. The group that raises the most each year is declared the winner for the year and has their names engraved on the Traveling Trophy. This year it was a really close race between the City Fire Department (who have won the last 5 years in a row) and the Decatur Police Department with only $316.47 separating 1 st & 2nd place.
In the end, The Salvation Army announced today that there is a new winner.
Congratulations to the Decatur Police Department who are the 2021 winners raising $4,654.03.
While a winner is named, it is really the community that is the winner knowing that the dollars raised will assist families with challenges and needs that may arise in the year to come. Each and every hour that was given by all of the First Responders raised precious supportive dollars for our community.
