January 3, 2022 – Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and its variants, the nation has had a shortage in blood supply. Donor turnout has decreased since August 2021. “Now with decreased blood donor turnout, our Red Cross blood supply has dropped to the lowest it has been at this time of year since 2015,” said Chris Hrouda, president of Red Cross Biomedical Services.
In the Decatur, Illinois area, here is how you can help keep our nation healthy:
- Wednesday, January 5, 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Decatur Donor Center. 151 W Main Street, Decatur, IL.
- Friday, January 7, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Decatur Donor Center. 151 W Main Street, Decatur, IL.
- Friday, January 14, 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Warrensburg Latham High School Community Blood Drive. 425 N North Street, Warrensburg, IL, inside the Bloodmobile. Help collect 20 donations to earn grant money for the school.
- Saturday, January 15, 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Macon County Farm Bureau Community Blood Drive. 1150 W Pershing Road, Decatur, IL, inside the Bloodmobile.
- Saturday, January 15, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Mt Zion Fire Department Community Blood Drive. 110 W Main Street, Mt. Zion, IL, in the Conference Room.
- Tuesday, January 18, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. D1 Naz Community Blood Drive. 1177 W. Hickory Point Rd, Decatur, IL inside Lobby.
For the drives on January 14 and 15, all donors will receive either a long sleeve t-shirt or a $10 gift card. Donors at the D1 Naz Community Blood Drive will receive either a St. Patrick’s Day t-shirt or a gift card redeemable at Target, Starbucks, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Subway, or Walmart.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. is required to donate.
