February 1, 2022 – With a winter storm approaching, staying in and hunkering down to wait out the cold is the best option, but sometimes that option is not available. Here are some safety tips for those that have to venture out into the frozen wasteland.
- Dress warmly and do your best to stay dry.
- Wear a warm hat and gloves – bring extras of each.
- If you have heavy outdoor chores, take your time and work slowly.
- Avoid walking on ice.
- If you are stranded, it is safest to stay in your car.
- Know the risks of extremely cold temperatures.
- Let a friend or family member know where you are going before heading out. If you do not arrive at the expected time and they cannot reach you, have them alert authorities.
