History of the Heartland invites those interested in local history to join community consortium

February 8, 2022 – History of the Heartland invites any groups, individuals, and organizations interested in local history, historic preservation or beautification in Macon County to call (217) 791-1385 or email aynproductions@yahoo.com for information about their community consortium. There is no cost for membership.

The organization was formed in 2019. It has sponsored numerous community events to highlight the need for historic preservation and the stories of the structures and the people of Macon County. There will be many opportunities for organizations and groups to highlight their preservation and beautification efforts within the community. “The purpose for our consortium to collaborate on common interests and encourage groups to reach out to other organizations to make use of their specialties and skills to help one another,” says Board Chairman Bret Robertson. Robertson continues “we are pleased with the broad variety of our members.” Membership includes: The Staley Museum, Long Creek Township, Macon Country Historical Museum, James Millikin Homestead to name a few.

Committee member Ayn Owens explains, “we are building the consortium to become a clearinghouse of preservation information to assist with future community efforts. Our vision includes community awareness and engagement to assist in preserving our rich history. We are excited to continually put preservation efforts in the community spotlight.”
