February 9, 2022 – The Decatur Family YMCA is currently accepting applications for two $500 scholarships for a male and female high school senior that has participated in their soccer program. The Petrowski Scholarship has been in place since 2001, with the most recent winners being Grace Pugh and Nicholas Spannaus last year.
Applicants need to have participated in Y soccer and they do not require specific dates of participation. If an applicant has participated in their biddy program, or just once in 3rd grade, or even every year, they realize that they had an opportunity to make a difference.
Dave Petrowsky, the namesake for the scholarship, was a passionate administrator, coach, and referee. The Y’s program, centers on their 4 core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Dave believed in those values and believed that a program that teaches those values would not only be a successful soccer program but also help youth become successful young adults. The YMCA works with the Community Foundation to administer the scholarship.
