February 23, 2022 – Governor JB Pritzker was in Decatur today at the Civic Center to discuss his property tax relief plan. The Governor spoke about what is being done in the General Assembly to be able to balance the budget for three straight years.

Illinois will end this fiscal year with a 1.7 billion dollar surplus, which is Illinois’ first substantial budget surplus in more than 25 years.

“It’s exciting news and it means that state government can finally put dollars back in the pockets of working families. Whether it’s global inflation or rising world oil prices from the war in Ukraine, working families need relief from higher prices, so I’ve proposed a billion dollars of relief for Illinois residents right now,” said Pritzker

The Governor’s plan, known as the Illinois Family Relief Plan begins with immediate property tax relief, up to $300 dollars for every eligible homeowner. The family relief plan will also eliminate the state tax on groceries and freeze the gas tax over the coming year. The planned outcome is to save families 500 million dollars at the checkout counter and at the gas pump.
