March 1, 2022 – A term and condition identified in the 1980’s, but only now getting focus, was the subject of the Macon County Mental Health Board’s Focus on the Future Event.
That condition is known as “vicarious trauma” often affects first responders, healthcare professionals, and those working with survivors of trauma and can parallel those of PTSD.
The event featured speaker Olga Phoenix, an internationally recognized resilience, self-care, and trauma prevention expert, and the best-selling author of the “Victim Advocate’s Guide to Wellness: Six Dimensions of Vicarious Trauma-Free Life.”
Phoenix’s presentation provides strategies and tools to fight burnout and vicarious trauma, foster workplace wellbeing, and transform the overall quality of life.
