March 2, 2022 – The warmer weather has people itching to get outdoors. Warmer weather goes hand-in-hand with golfing weather, and the recent snow and rain have made the ground muddied and wet.
“We continue to evaluate ground conditions on a daily basis but are hopeful that we will be able to open Red Tail Run by the end of the week. The sun and light winds we have had over the last few days have been extremely helpful in drying out the course,” said Clay Gerhard, Executive Director of the Decatur Park District.
“Red Tail has great subsurface drainage installed and typically dries out sooner than other courses in the area. We are closely monitoring the conditions of the putting greens. We really need to get a motorized roller on the greens to smooth them out from any winter movement before they are playable. We hope to try to get a machine on the greens sometime today. We will also be working to blow leaves off the fairways and greens once conditions allow us to get equipment on the grounds.” he continued.
All golf carts will need to stay on the cart paths for the foreseeable future once the course opens until we completely dry out. More rain is forecasted for Saturday night and Sunday night but with highs approaching 70 degrees on Saturday.
The Park District will distribute a release/announcement and update their social media platforms on Thursday afternoon once they make a final determination. All plans are subject to change and based on weather and ground conditions.
