March 18, 2022 – By now, Decatur has hopefully seen the last major winter storm come and go. With Sunday, March 20, being the first day of Spring, we now look to enjoy the good weather and bask in the sunlight.
However, before we can go outside, most of us will focus on the inside of our homes and switching from winter to spring. We want to help you with your spring cleaning by providing a few places you can not forget.
- Have a list: Some of us are able to look around and only find a couple of things to tidy up, but as for the rest of us, a simple list with most, if not all, of your tasks will help you make sure there is nothing missing.
- Start by dusting: Dusters are not always perfect at catching all the dust particles from flying onto other objects. If you start with dusting, then you can clean up those pesky particles later on in cleaning. What should you dust? Dust anything and everything you can think of, but do not forget the ceiling fans!
- Check those batteries: Whether it is a clock that you were dusting or a smoke detector, don’t put that step-ladder away until you’ve made sure you don’t have to change the batteries later.
- Hit the kitchen: The kitchen can seem daunting, but it is so important. Some of the spots often forgotten about can be the crumb tray in your toaster (don’t want to start a fire now), the frost in your freezer, behind and beneath the fridge or freezer, and lastly the cabinet shelves. You never know when some rodents got into your delicious box of Pop-Tarts.
- Bedroom essentials: Wash those sheets, especially the ones in your teenagers’ rooms. Pillowcases are not naturally yellow. Rotate the mattresses, just like you would tires on a car or wheels on your roller skates. Go through your clothes and see if there is anything you could donate.
- Polish up that bathroom: Time to get a little grimy. Wash that shower floor and get behind the toilet. We all know that this can be one of the messiest places, so we don’t think we need to describe in detail what needs to happen. However, make sure you throw out any expired medicine.
- Time to vacuum: Save this step for last because it helps pick up anything that may have been thrown on the carpet or hardwood thanks to previous steps. This also means you need to get in between the couch cushions and vacuum off any curtains as well.
