Hip Hop took to social media to pay tribute to DJ Kay Slay, who passed away after a long battle with COVID-19. He was 55. The family of Kay Slay, born Keith Grayson, released a statement confirming his death.
The statement read, “Our hearts are broken by the passing of Keith Grayson, professionally known as DJ Kay Slay. A dominant figure in Hip Hop culture with millions of fans worldwide, DJ Kay Slay will be remembered for his passion and excellence with a legacy that will transcend generations.”
The statement continued, “In memory of DJ Kay Slay, our family wishes to thank all of his friends, fans, and supporters for their prayers and well wishes during this difficult time. We ask that you respect our privacy as we grieve this tragic loss.”
Ice T tweeted, “We lost one of the most SOLID MFs in HipHop.. I’ve been checking in on him his whole struggle in the Hospital. I honestly thought he was gonna pull through. This truly Hurts… F Covid. RIP to the Drama King 👑 #Kay Slay.” Benny The Butcher wrote, “RIP to the Drama King.”
T.I. wrote, “Rest Easy Big Dog!!! A true pioneer & architect of the culture. The 1st DJ in NY to let me freestyle on his mixtape & welcome me to the city. Glad we had a chance to chop it up & kick it over the phone again last December. Was always honored to spit for you. Love & Respect King.”
50 Cent also paid tribute to Kay Slay, saying, “Rest In Peace K slay God bless you . 🕊#bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”
Snoop Dogg also had some kind words for Kay Slay, saying, “Thank. U. @djkayslay for being u god bless ya soul 🙏🏽🌹🌹 🕊 say hi to my mama 🥲.”
